Wavefront OBJ is a popular file format for 3D objects. In civil engineering, it is commonly used for rendering concept and photo-realistic representations and animations of designs.

Site3D produces a high quality 3D OBJ model that can be imported into rendering programs such as Lumion, Blender, Unity and Unreal where you can change lighting conditions, add sky and even apply textures to the different surfaces.

To export the coloured final surface as an OBJ file, use the File->Save As->Design to OBJ(*.obj) menu option.

You are asked to choose the origin point for the exported model:

OBJ Export Choose Origin

Left click on a position within your design that will be the centre of the model when imported into a rendering program. It is usually recommended to choose an origin that is in the centre of your design so that your model is centred in the view when imported into a rendering program.

Note: After choosing a filename, Site3D will export both the OBJ file and a MTL materials file of the same filename as the OBJ file, but with '.mtl' extension instead. The materials file contains default surface colours.
